Coconut oil for natural skin care
Coconut oil for skin and hair care There is no mistaking the wonderful benefits of coconut oil for the softening and healing dry and damaged skin and hair. Coconut oil works wonders for burns, cuts, bruises, and speeds the healing while it fights infection. Coconut oil is different from other saturated fats because it is composed of medium-chain fatty acids, MCFAs. Dietary oils are composed of triglycerides that break down into fatty acids in the digestive process. These fatty acids have antimicrobial properties, and the most active are the lauric acid and capric acids which form 50 percent of the fat content of coconut oil. Lauric acid is was first identified in the fruit and seeds of the bay laurel, which has been used in folk medicine since ancient times.
Heart and Cardiovascular benefits of Coconut oil  Research on the lauric acid in coconut oil has shown it increases levels of good HDL, or high-density lipoprotein, and bad LDL, or low-density lipoprotein, in the blood, but is not thought to negatively affect the overall ratio of the two. It should be noted that there is controversy over the heart health benefits of coconut oil. During the 1980s, the American Heart Association issued statements indicating that coconut oil's high saturated fat content was detrimental to cardiovascular health and promoted heart disease, and they still stand behind those claims today.
To get the best benefits of coconut oil, look for unrefined, virgin oils (Virgin Coconut Oil VCO) made from fresh coconuts that are the best cosmetic and food grade.

Wonderful for cooking as it has a high flash point and doesn't burn so easily... we use it also to extend our butter stores.  Our gf pancakes and flat breads turn out even better using coconut oil than olive or grape seed oils.
Stir fries, breads and pasteries... everything seems to be better with coconut oil.

Coconut oil also Kills Candida Albicans... the bad tummy bacteria...
for thrush put on you and in baby's mouth.
For your own health just take a teaspoon and let it melt in your mouth a couple of times a day.
For yeast infections apply liberally in and around area.
For nappy rashes and to prevent them use coconut oil in place of diaper rash ointments. Smells better and keeps the skin healthy and pliable.
Also great for preventing age spots and wrinkles all over.
And wonderful for your hair and scalp... have an itchy flaky scalp... maybe it has a sour odor... try using some coconut oil on it... it may be candida.
Works great on Cradle cap too or just flaky baby/toddler scalp.
We've used lots of different brand of Extra Virgin Coconut oil... just don't get that yucky Lou Anns that WalMart offers... it isn't Extra Virgin and has been heat processed and bleached therefore killed... not good.
The two we have had most recently have been Nutiva and Harvest Bay.
You can get coconut oil at the health food store and through your local food co-op as well as Whole Foods.
Put a little in your palm and add essential oils to it for a wonderful treat and massage.
Works great as a carrier oil when doing lymph massage.
