  Latex often contaminates vaccine solutions by interacting with the syringe plungers, vial stopper or seal.  Latex contains numerous polypeptides, many of which may act as allergens; case reports describe various immediate-type hypersensitivity reactions occurring post-vaccination in patients with a history of latex allergy, including anaphylaxis.  Perhaps as a result of mass vaccination campaigns, allergic reactions to latex are relatively common and can cause anaphylactic shock, which can be life-threatening.
